My observations of and experience with this breed:  I find silkie and showgirls to be funny little birds.  They are quite docile and can learn quickly to be picked up and handled without issue.  They can be startled easily because their large crest limits their view until something is directly in front of them.  So, they will jump and flap their wing unexpectedly.  Their barbless feathers feel like fur and their round, compact size makes them irresistibly huggable!  With their skinny, naked necks and fluffy bodies, showgirls look like little old ladies dressed fancy for church outings!  I've been tempted many times to put a small necklace of pearls around their necks and take photos.

In this pen, I have a showgirl rooster and a showgirl hen.  In addition, there is a juvenile silkie roo and two juvenile silkie hens, none of the three are old enough to breed yet.
